Icebergs
Icebergs are mesmerizing natural wonders. Although they may appear small and insignificant, icebergs possess power and strength that should not be underestimated. These ice blocks break off Alaska’s glaciers and drift along with the ocean current. Why do icebergs float? Believe it or not, ice is about 9% less dense than water, causing icebergs to float to the top. But only a portion of their mass is exposed above water. The phrase “the tip of an iceberg” is apt indeed! As icebergs melt due to rising temperatures, they release vast amounts of freshwater, altering ocean salinity and currents. This has enormous implications for nearby ecosystems.
