Arrival
Plan to arrive in Petersburg, Alaska, at least one day prior to our trip departure. We suggest booking accommodations at the Nordic House or Scandia House in Petersburg.
For a tasty lunch of fresh seafood, try the halibut, salmon, king crab, or black cod at the Coastal Cold Storage on Nordic Drive. The Salty Pantry and Papa Bear's Pizza are also recommended. Be sure to take some time to browse through the art galleries and gift shops in Petersburg. A great selection of work by local artists is available.
Day 1
We'll kick off your adventure by boarding the Glacier Bear at North Harbor in Petersburg, a charming town steeped in fishing lore. After a safety briefing and equipment check, we’ll set sail, navigating through the rich marine life of the Inside Passage.
We'll enjoy the stunning scenery of fir-covered islands and majestic mountains as we head to our first fishing location. In the afternoon, we’ll cast our lines for rainbow and cutthroat trout, relishing the thrill of the catch while soaking in the serene wilderness. As the sun sets, we'll unwind and share stories of the day’s fishing triumphs.
Day 2
After a hearty breakfast, we’ll navigate to Farragut Bay, renowned for its rich marine life and picturesque views. The morning will be dedicated to setting out crab and shrimp traps in the tranquil coves. Then, we’ll spend the afternoon fly fishing in the pristine waters of Port Houghton, targeting elusive steelhead trout.
Prepare for exhilarating battles as these mighty fish leap and dart. With eagles soaring overhead and the rhythmic sounds of nature surrounding us, we'll experience the connection between angler and environment. In the evening, we'll enjoy fresh seafood from our earlier traps as we celebrate a successful day.
Day 3
Today, we’ll make our way to Security Bay, where the wild beauty of Alaska truly shines. After breakfast, we'll check our crab and shrimp traps to reveal the day’s catch. The morning will be spent fishing in the lush estuaries, where the mix of fresh and saltwater creates a unique habitat.
Here, the vibrant Dolly Varden awaits your line. We revel in the excitement of navigating Alaska’s waters while surrounded by breathtaking fjords. As dusk approaches, we’ll find a cozy anchorage, enjoying dinner under the stars while recounting the day’s adventures with our fellow anglers.
Day 4
As we journey to Saginaw Bay, prepare for a day filled with adventure. After breakfast, we’ll check our traps for crabs and shrimp, enjoying the delight of fresh catches. Then, we’ll spend the day fishing in crystal-clear waters populated by cutthroat and rainbow trout.
The excitement of casting your line in these pristine environments is unparalleled. Marvel at the sights of Steller sea lions basking on rocks and whales breaching nearby. As the sun sets, we’ll anchor in a secluded bay, sharing a hearty meal and stories of the day's fishing escapades amidst the backdrop of Alaska’s natural beauty
Day 5
Today, we arrive at the picturesque Kadake Bay, renowned for its exceptional fishing opportunities and breathtaking scenery. After an early breakfast, we’ll retrieve our traps and feast on our fresh seafood bounty. The rest of the day will be dedicated to fly fishing for steelhead, as we navigate through the rich waters of the bay.
With the majestic mountains as a backdrop, experience the thrill of the chase as steelhead put up a thrilling fight. As the day winds down, we’ll anchor in a serene cove, enjoying the tranquility of Alaska’s wilderness and recounting our fishing tales in the lounge.
Day 6
On our final fishing day, we’ll head to Portage Bay, a hotspot for fly fishing enthusiasts. After checking traps and enjoying an early breakfast, we’ll cast our lines in search of the prized steelhead and colorful Dolly Varden. The invigorating process of fly fishing is amplified by the stunning scenery, with cascading waterfalls and lush forests enveloping us.
Throughout the day, keep an eye out for wildlife, including black and brown bears foraging along the shorelines. In the evening, celebrate our last night on the water with a festive dinner, sharing laughs and memories made during this unforgettable Alaskan adventure.
Day 7
As we begin our journey back to North Harbor, savor the final moments of your Alaskan fishing adventure. Enjoy a leisurely breakfast while reflecting on the excitement of the past week. Along the way, keep your eyes peeled for marine life, including orcas and porpoises.
Arriving back in Petersburg, we’ll unload our gear and share final farewells, cementing friendships formed over shared experiences. With memories of breathtaking scenery, thrilling catches, and the wonders of nature, you’ll leave with a heart full of adventure and a promise to return to Alaska’s pristine wilds.
